HENNGE Participates in the “2030 Zero Disposable Umbrellas Project for City (Shibuya)” and Begins Providing Original Umbrellas in Shibuya

HENNGE K.K. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Kazuhiro Ogura) has participated in the “2030 Zero Disposable Umbrellas Project for City (Shibuya)” conducted by iKASA, the umbrella sharing service, and Tokyu Fudosan Holdings Corporation. We are pleased to announce that we have produced original umbrellas and will begin offering them from Thursday, April 24th, mainly in Shibuya-ku.

The 2030 Zero Disposable Umbrellas Project started in 2022 to eliminate the waste of disposable umbrellas in Japan, which are said to be consumed at a rate of about 80 million per year, by 2030, the deadline for achieving the SDGs. Participating companies are continuing their efforts to achieve zero disposable umbrellas, such as producing umbrellas with original designs and making iKASA available to their employees free of charge.
In June 2024, Tokyu Fudosan Holdings and iKASA launched the joint project “A City Without Carried Around Umbrellas, Shibuya” with the support of Shibuya City and the Shibuya Tourism Association. The participation of HENNGE, which is headquartered in Shibuya and aims to realize a sustainable society, will increase the number of umbrella spots and make Shibuya even more convenient and attractive.

Ms. Megumi Matsumoto, Director of Group Sustainability Promotion Department, Tokyu Fudosan Holdings Corporation, stated: Tokyu Fudosan Holdings launched the “A City Without Carried Around Umbrellas, Shibuya” project jointly with iKASA in June last year. The number of iKASA spots has increased, and many people use them. We are seeing more and more iKASA umbrellas in the city of Shibuya.
We are delighted that HENNGE is participating in this project. We hope to expand our efforts to revitalize Shibuya and conserve the environment by eliminating disposable umbrellas, with the cooperation of everyone who visits Shibuya and uses umbrellas, as well as participating companies.

Haruo Amano, Representative Director and Executive Vice President, HENNGE K.K., added: We are very pleased to participate in the 2030 Zero Disposable Umbrellas Project for City (Shibuya). When in Shibuya, please try the collaboratively designed umbrella by iKASA and HENNGE. We hope you will feel a little enjoyment and consideration for the global environment in your daily travels.
We, HENNGE, have organized our initiatives toward realizing a sustainable society as ‘SUSTAINABLE HENNGE’ to balance our daily corporate activities with solutions to social issues. We believe that reducing disposable umbrellas is a way to lessen the environmental impact and a big step toward updating the future of cities. We hope this challenge, which started in Shibuya, will spread throughout Japan and the world.

About the umbrella designed by HENNGE
While boldly using the HENNGE logo, the umbrella fits naturally with any outfit because of its moderate black and gray color. Inside the umbrella, you can find the word “へんげ (HENNGE)” in reversed letters. If you take a selfie holding the umbrella, the word will be displayed correctly. Feel free to try it!

By eliminating the inability to move due to lack of an umbrella and the discomfort of getting wet, it is building an infrastructure as a “rainy-day platform” so that each person can spend their time as they want and realize a society full of love for both people who share umbrellas and our planet.
